Description Position Overview:
The Climate Corporation is revolutionizing the agriculture industry with a platform and products that are helping the world's farmers sustainably increase productivity with digital tools. We are looking for an individual to help us create a comprehensive data architecture plan that enables us to help farmers take full advantage of our agronomic, genomic and geospatial data. As the Principal Engineer / Architect, you will build relationships across Climate and Bayer to understand the challenges we are facing today and anticipate for tomorrow to build the data architecture and systems we need to power our Digital Farming Platform. You will leverage the data expertise you have gained from working across various industries, data systems, and data platforms to build a world-class, fast, scalable and innovative solution that will empower our science, engineering, data analytics, and enterprise partners. Your optimistic and encouraging attitude will help our engineers build their expertise, align priorities and deliver very complex solutions that help increase crop yields to feed a growing population. What You Will Do:
Responsible for the technical direction and architecture of the Unified Data Layer Implement the Climate Data Platform that will be used across the company and provide the system of record for the Digital Farming Platform. Collaborate with stakeholders to document use cases and requirements that meet the full scope of the problem that we are trying to solve Collaborate with the Architects across Engineering to ensure architectural consistency Ensure that Engineers know exactly what they need to build (and that they build the correct thing) Collaborate across Engineering to influence strategic direction to recommend and implement appropriate data platforms and structures across the various application domains Oversee the mapping of data sources, data movement, interfaces, and analytics--with the goal of ensuring data quality, improving delivery, and reducing costs. Establish, document and champion data engineering excellence practices across Climate (areas might include:
governance, security, business continuity, data quality, disaster recovery, etc.) Manage architectural, project and organizational complexity to ensure delivery of effective enterprise data systems Remain conversant with emerging data technologies and strategies Basic
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent relevant work experience 12
years of experience in software development 5
years of large scale data systems architecture Hands-on development in Java Preferred
Qualifications:
Expertise with geospatial data Master's Degree in Computer Science Previous experience building high leverage data platforms in the cloud Deep knowledge about various software architectures Deep knowledge and experience with AWS cloud technologies Knowledge and experience with Azure technologies Expert level knowledge and experience in data architecture, storage platforms, data modeling, data pipelines, and highly scalable big data systems Expert level application and enterprise platform data modeling Experience with Master and Reference data management Experience working as an architect at a SaaS company Experience with distributed file systems and processing (S3, Azure Blob, Hadoop, Spark, etc.) Experience with pipeline ETL processing and knowledge of techniques and technologies Experience with SQL and No-SQL databases (Dynamo, Cassandra, Postgres, Snowflake, Redshift, Drill, Athena, Big Query, MongoDB, Neo4J, Neptune, Elasticsearch) Experience with stream processing technologies (Kinesis, SNS/SQS, Kafka, Pulsar, Flink, etc.) Excellent communication and presentation skills for all levels of an organization Demonstrated expertise in getting disparate groups to align priorities, deliverables, and timelines.
