Summary:
Under the general supervision and direction of the Dean of the School of Nursing and Health Professions (the School), the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Faculty Development is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to promote high quality pre-licensure and graduate nursing degree programs (to be referred to in this document as nursing programs) in the SchoolSpecifically, this position provides leadership in planning, implementing, and evaluating the delivery of the academic curriculum for the School in cooperation with other Associate Deans, Faculty and StaffAssociate Deans in the School work closely with the Dean to ensure the delivery of high-quality, accredited academic programsThe Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Faculty Development oversees all aspects of the delivery of academic nursing programs including, but not limited to development and improvement of programs and oversight of strategies for recruitment, retention, and career preparation of students in these programsIn collaboration with the staff and faculty, the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Faculty Development contributes to ensuring that the School remains compliant with all relevant accreditation and professional licensing bodiesThe Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Faculty Development will be responsible for direct reports, including Department Chairs, Program Directors and staff specifically assigned to undergraduate and graduate nursing programs, and will support recruitment, development and retention of faculty teaching in these programsAs a member of the School's leadership team, the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Faculty Development will collaborate closely with the Senior Associate Dean and the rest of the Executive Leadership Team on policy making, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the School's activities and assist in ensuring that the University's vision, mission, and values are foundational elements in guiding decision-making and actions within the SchoolFull
Job Description:
40% - Nursing Programs Management / Execution:
Provide strategic leadership across nursing programs within the School's nursing departments to ensure consistency among both faculty and academic programming support, while achieving the educational goals of the School and the UniversityCollaborate with the Dean to develop, implement, evaluate, and revise policies to ensure clear and relevant standardization across nursing programsFacilitate regular meetings of the nursing faculty to enable communication and faculty collaboration in planning, implementing, and evaluating curriculum aimed at continuing to offer diverse and well-coordinated curriculumAssure sensitivity to and work for anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion (ADEI) issues and endeavors across the school and programs; proactive recruitment to support ADEISupport the preparation and administration of nursing program budgets by program directors and department chairs to ensure financial health and stability of the nursing departments and programsMonitor and revise bulletins, class schedules, and additional nursing program information to support faculty leadership to consistently deliver high-quality, accurate, and timely program communicationsFoster relationships with academic and industry stakeholders to ensure the School's connection to changes and trends happening in healthcare, health professions, and the higher education landscapeRepresent the School at regional, national, and international levels through conferences, participation in professional associations, etcto maintain the School's presence as a leader in the fieldParticipate in the evaluation of faculty as designated by the DeanWork collaboratively with the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs and Learning Innovation to ensure that clinical, experiential and immersive learning experiences support curricular goals and objectives and promote expected program outcomesWork with faculty and leadership to develop and implement inter-professional curricular experiencesCollaborate with the Leadership Team and Faculty on development and submission of proposals to secure external fundingDischarge the duties of other members of the Executive Leadership Team in their absence as delegated to ensure cross-coverage of duties20% - Faculty Development:
Support full-time term and tenure track faculty and staff orientation and onboarding ensuring that all new faculty and staff complete their course requirements within the stated timelineOversee the recruitment and orientation for full-time faculty with the goal of hiring and retaining exemplary faculty who are leaders in NursingParticipate in the evaluation of faculty as designated by the DeanSupervise / coach new programs staff and faculty to provide leadership and professional supportIn collaboration with the Dean, facilitate faculty pursuit of professional training opportunities and resources to enhance their growth and developmentIdentify and recommend faculty and staffing needs ensuring the School can continue to offer a best-in-class educational and professional experience for students, staff and facultyCollaborate with faculty in integrating teaching, practice, and scholarship and ensuring equitable and reasonable faculty workloads10 % - Student and Academic Services:
Collaborate with the University's (undergraduate) and School's (graduate) recruitment staffs to develop and oversee recruitment and enrollment strategies and orientation processes for nursing students to increase program enrollment and enhance the student orientation experienceFacilitate tracking and reporting of data on Nursing Department student success, ensuring that future program and academic services planning is driven by relevant student performance and experience dataOversee the faculty's approach to and execution of addressing needs of students in nursing programs whose academic performance is deficient to ensure quick issue identification and timely and equitable resolution for all students10% - Compliance and Accreditation:
Assure that the School remains compliant with all relevant accrediting and professional licensing bodies, as related to graduate nursing programs:
o Oversee compliance with California Board of Registered Nursing regulatory standardso Participate in all efforts to evaluate, pursue, secure and maintain national accreditation and meet regulatory requirements10% - Scholarship:
Engage in scholarly activities, including but not limited to:
research or scholarship in an area of personal expertise; support and facilitate student scholarly activities, especially those relating to clinical practice and/or nursing and health professions education10% - Additional duties as assignedMinimum Requirements:
Doctoral degree required in Nursing or relevant field with credentials appropriate for faculty appointment5 years of work experience in nursing education or a related field with progressive management / leadership responsibilitySpecial skills needed:
Must have a California RN licenseAdditional Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
