30 pm Serves as the Nursing Assistant and is assigned to the Operating Room Department. Responsible for providing direct and indirect patient care assistance to the health care in the perioperative setting. This position is part of the Nursing Service. Major Duties include but is not limited to:
Preparing/Setting up rooms for operations by gathering correct OR furniture, positioning devices, equipment, and supplies including linens, fluids, and PPEs for the operating room team.- Assists in positioning surgical patients. Assisting in peri-care as needed.- Escorts patients to and from the inpatient units (other than ICU) including HDU, Radiology, E/A, and other locations within the Medical Center. Performing hair clipping per unit protocols. Delivering specimens, blood products and supplies as directed. Restocking supplies such as but not limited to specimen containers, PPE, scrub soaps, irrigation fluids, and other miscellaneous items on storage shelves as well as at point of use. Inspecting supply cabinets, checking outdates, and performing scheduled cleaning following RME and infection control standards. Ensuring a full tank of oxygen with a regulator and a wrench are readily available for each gurney and transport bed for postop patient transfers. Carrying out requests from Registered Nurses and other providers promptly, and cross-relieving each others (with nursing assistants). Returning unused supplies to proper storage containers. Performing turnover or terminal cleaning of rooms following the end of operations. Cleaning equipment according to manufacturer instructions per protocols. Managing space and ensuring access to emergency exits at all times. Participating in the Emergency Response Plan at the perioperative areas as needed. Supporting patients during line placements or other invasive procedures as needed. Setting up isolation supply cart and making them available at point of use when patients on contact-precautions are in holding area. Complying with hospital infection control standards including hand hygiene and RME policies. Participating in medical emergencies and disasters. Serving as a backup person at the front desk in the absence of the unit MSA. Collaborating with the EMS team members in keeping the perioperative environment clean and safe. Performing other duties as instructed by the nurse manager, charge nurse, or the designees. One year above high school with courses related to the Nursing Assistant occupation. Completion of an intensive, specialized, occupation-related course of study of less than one year as a nursing assistant may also meet in full the experience requirements for GS-3. Physical Requirements:

Nursing Assistants must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j. In addition to the basic requirements for employment, the following criteria must be met when determining the grade of candidates:
GS-5 (Full Performance):
One year of progressively responsible assignments and experience equivalent to the GS-4 level which demonstrates knowledge, skills, and abilities that are directly related to the specific assignment. OR Education. Successful completion of a 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree that included 24 semester hours of courses related to health care or possession of a bachelor's degree.NOTE:

AND In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs). Ability to assist in the full range of nursing care to patients/residents with physical and/or behavioral problems in a hospital, long term care or outpatient setting under the direction of a Registered Nurse and/or Licensed Vocational Nurse/Licensed Practical Nurse. Ability to communicate orally with patients/residents, families, interdisciplinary team and other personnel. This includes serving as a preceptor to new NAs by assisting with the coordination of their orientation and overseeing/assessing their practical experience while in a clinical setting. Ability to recognize and react to emergent patient/resident care situations and intervene while waiting for assistance. For example, recognizing need for basic life support, controlling bleeding and assisting with behavior crisis, etc. References:

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
