For Sale: 1976 BMW 2002 in San Francisco, California for sale in San Francisco, CA

1 of 16
Vehicle Description Motivated to sell due to financial setbacks from current events.
One of the few 2002-m3 clones with the original m3 body kit, still intact.
Garaged kept for the last 20yrs or so, and modified tastefully, and it looks quite appealing, and it also drives well too.
This 1976 has been retrofitted to accommodate the early style bumpers, with EURO Flush mount turn signals, and again, tastefully done.
The body kit, along with the retrofitment of the bumpers was done the right way, as you can feel how secure the front or rear bumpers are, without much flex.
As this is not easy to fabricate, even on a stock BMW without.
The original color is 076 GOLF YELLOW, on Tan, however, according to the historical conversation from the husband, his partial 'investor' wife strongly desired the ATLANTIK BLUE over the yellow, and the rest is history.
happy wife, happy as so it goes.
The m3 clone has a factory manual working SUNROOF.
The driveline is a Factory Stock 'crate motor', however, the prior owner strongly believes from his conversation with the 1st owner, that it is well under 100k, perhaps closer to 50k if that.
Looking inside the oil filler cap, the head is quite clean, with little to no exhaust - oil age composite deposits.
Either way, that is a good sign, the engine has been taken care of, by listening to it run, and how it drives.
The transmission is a 5 speed conversion, that shifts up and down smoothly with no grinds, it does have some minor whining, but it does shift well, and mated to the Factory crated motor, the result is a strong driving, very appealing 02-m3 clone, that shows well, all by itself.
The engine does not smoke and starts right up, on the FIRST turn of the key, which is usually the sign of good compression, or a 02-m3 clone that likes to drink late at night, till early morning, without anyone knowing.
It does not have any eminent leaks, the typical 'sweat' but otherwise reasonably clean undercarriage with no oil bath-birthmarkings.
There is an original set of keys, in the original leather 'pouchette' that came with some of these new purchases, can't verify if this originally came with the 2002, but it is historic, either way.
The 3 keys, that typically fit the ignition-door, trunk, and locking gas cap, all doors, and the trunk shut well, and the gas cap also locks up tight.
All the glass is intact - no cracks, door wings, main glass, and rear quarter glass all function quite well, and the doors shut ONCE, and stay shut, without slamming or re-shutting because of the missing grommet, loose door striker plate, or sagging doors.
Solid sounding 2002,, and you'll know, once you see, feel, and drive it.
The body work is straight, without any poor or damage controlled bodywork.
However, like anything that looks so appealing that is not in a showroom, it has it share of parking lot bobo's, paint chips, and minor scratches, around the car, BUT, this is NOT a 10ft, or 20ft car, its more like a 5ft car, before you get close enough to see the minor cosmetic flaws, and nothing (depending on how anal-retentive you are) needing a new paint job.
This is a clean, reasonably sorted out, Driver, that needs minimal attention, and is completely drive-able.
.
The suspension is solid, with no eminent clunking, clanking, or thuds, when hitting turns hard, or up curbs.
There is a front valance, and it is a bit higher then typical, so a wary eye and sense of caution are not so critical when driving this around depending on the area, you are driving in.
Some cities and rural areas, like the San Francisco BAY AREA, has some wonderful back roads, without hitting nasty potholes, and paving level drops, to send your car squealing from mercy.
Either way, it is a fun car to drive, especially on good roads.
With the new tires, the 02-m3 clone handles fine, unless you decide to AUTOCROSS, and dip into your pocketbook to upgrade the suspension, all your choice.
This is a cool looking 2002-m3 clone, that has been put together well, and has no serious structural rust, a very straight body, and minimal battle scars.
AS mentioned, it is a Driver now, but with a little fine-tuning, it can be even more, for a road trip.
